Guide

Choose the right audio format

MP3 works on almost every device. M4A (AAC) gives better quality at the same size. WAV is uncompressed, for editing; FLAC shrinks it without losing quality; OGG (Vorbis) is open and economical; and OPUS is extremely efficient for voice such as podcasts and meeting recordings.

Converting from a lossy format to FLAC or WAV does not bring back quality that was already lost; the benefit is only compatibility and ease of editing.

How it works

Three simple steps

1

Add your audio

Drag MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, AAC or WMA files, or a video that contains sound.

2

Choose the format

Tap the format, then set the bitrate or VBR level, channels (stereo or mono) and sample rate.

3

Convert and download

When it is done, play the result right on the page, then download it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which audio format is best?

It depends on your goal. MP3 for maximum compatibility, M4A for good quality at a small size, FLAC for lossless archiving, WAV for editing, OPUS for voice at a very small size.

Will the sound or picture quality drop?

Converting to a lossy format (MP3, MP4) means compressing again. At the Good or High settings the difference is usually hard to notice. Raising the bitrate or resolution above the original does not improve the result, and Ubahin never upscales resolution. For full-quality audio, choose FLAC or WAV.

What is the maximum file size?

We set no limit, but browsers have memory limits. As a guideline, up to about 500 MB is comfortable on a laptop and up to about 200 MB on a phone. Larger files can make the browser run out of memory; trim first or use a more powerful device.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs in your browser using a WebAssembly build of ffmpeg, so your files are never sent to Ubahin's servers. The only thing your browser downloads is the conversion engine (about 7 MB, once, then cached). If you use the Link field, the file is fetched directly from its source into your browser.

Is Ubahin free?

Yes, it is free and needs no sign-up. We set no daily or per-conversion limits; the only limits are your device's memory and speed.
